Anxiety
Anxiety

Anxiety disorders are the most common mental health conditions in Australia. They affect 1 in 4 Australians at some stage in their life.

Anxiety disorders include;

 - Generalised Anxiety Disorder, Panic, Agoraphobia and other Phobias, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, and Social Anxiety.

Our treatment includes a range of approaches to manage the physiological symptoms related to anxiety, address unhelpful thoughts that occur, and to reduce the impact that anxiety has on your life. For more information, feel free to contact us to discuss your symptoms and how we can help.

Depression
Depression

Depression is common — it affects 1 in 16 Australians each year.

Depression can affect a range of areas in one's life, from sleep, appetite, energy and sex-drive, through to motivation, loss of enjoyment in activities, experiencing negative views about self and the world, and experiencing thoughts of suicide.

It can be common for people to also experience anger, use alcohol or other substances, and to reduce physical activity.

We aim to take a treatment approach that addresses all affected areas of your life affected by the depression using cognitive and behavioural techniques and approaches that are tailored to suit you.

Relationships
Relationships

Our relationships are important to us. Relationships issues can be caused by a wide range of factors, and sometimes being able to see eye-to-eye can be difficult. Seeing a relationships counsellor can be great place to start improving your relationship.

Some common relationship difficulties can include communication, trust, addiction issues, intimacy issues, parenting differences, financial stress, compatibility differences and feeling time poor. Working through some of these challenges can be difficult to achieve at times. However, having a professional involved can be an effective way to achieve collaboration and to improve the quality of your relationship/s.

Grief an Loss
Grief and Loss

Grief is a response to the loss of someone or something that was important, such as a death, divorce, illness or other significant loss. The experience of grief is different for everyone, and doesn't always require psychological intervention, however having support to process a loss in your life can assist to ensure a healthy grief process.

If a grief reaction or loss is complicated or unresolved, symptoms can be prolonged, and affect physical, mental and social aspects of life. Speaking with a mental health professional can help to lessen the impact of grief and loss, and to promote healthy processing of uncomfortable thoughts and emotions, and guide behaviour in the direction you would like to take in the face of loss.

Trauma
Trauma

Confronting or distressing events can often result in longer-term difficulties.

Psychological treatment can improve the symptoms of trauma if they become too distressing, or if they are impairing everyday activities such as work, study, family, and relationships.

We understand that not everybody is ready or would like to discuss traumatic events in their life, and that's okay. People respond to trauma differently, and we aim to develop a treatment plan that is suited to your needs.

Our clinicians have experience and training in trauma-informed practice, and in recommended treatment options including trauma-focussed psychological interventions such as cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and exposure therapy. These focus on education, stress management techniques, and helping the person to confront feared situations and distressing memories.

Mood Instability
Mood Instability

Our moods temporarily affect how we experience life at that time. Mood instability is when there is a feeling that there is no control over moods resulting in difficulty managing behaviours.

Mood instability can cause issues in relationships with others by the mood lasting longer than desired, having outbursts, or impulsive behaviours.

With treatment, recovery is possible. Our clinicians use techniques to lessen the impact of mood changes and to improve feelings of being out of control.
